Stylish, stark and violent, Sin City gives Frank Miller's work voice |
|||||||
|
Pros: The use of color and light is very convincing.
Cons: This requires a rather jaded spirit to sit through.
The Bottom Line: Over the top, comic book violence with a dark and evil twist. Not for the young, the politically correct or the prim.
Review: I'm not much of a fan of what are now known as 'graphic novels' any more. Oh, I still have my collection of Cerebus tucked away, and some of Frank Miller's The Dark Knight and the more artistic endevours of Michael Kaluta and Howard Chaykin ...

Pros: Great characters, script, cinematography, and overall vision...
Cons: May be a bit (cough-cough) too graphically violent for many people...
The Bottom Line: Frank Miller's Sin City is adapted brilliantly to the big screen by Robert Rodriguez. If you're looking for the most stylish movie this year, look no further.
Review: A montage of car races, oddball characters, murders, violence, sex, and gritty street scenes helps to make Sin City one of the most remarkable film experiences of the year. Robert Rodriguez (El Mariachi, From Dusk Till Dawn, The Faculty) outdoes himself ...

Frank Miller's Sin City A.K.A. Passion of the Pulp |
|||
|
Pros: Wholly unlike anything I've ever seen before.
Cons: What in the blue f@ck was that!?
The Bottom Line: It's finally happened. And now it's never going to stop. See Sin City for yourself and you'll never come back either.
Review: Most of the time, you can trust that any feeling you are left with after watching a movie is a telling factor on how much you liked or disliked it. Has nothing to do with whether you like or dislike the feeling itself, because these days, bad feelings ...

Walk down the right back alley in Sin City and you can find anything... |
|||
|
Pros: Everything: performances, dialogue, direction, etc...
Cons: Nothing.
The Bottom Line: is a sinner.
Review: Film-making hardly gets better than Sin City. The producers had it all in place. They had two of the most acclaimed directors currently in Hollywood. They had famous actors in the double digits. And they based their film on stories in one of the ...

Pros: All-Star lineup, great atmosphere, action, witty humor, Jessica Alba dances on a bar
Cons: Perversion throughout
The Bottom Line: A visual feast for the eyes, with one of the best adaptations ever seen on a big screen.
Review: There was not truly a huge amount of hype for this movie, at least in my estimation. Just another comic book adaptation, one we have seen more than a fair share of the past couple of years. But you knew immediately that this would be something ...

Pros: Amazing cast, tons of gore and action
Cons: A little too brutal at times, not many happy endings
The Bottom Line: Sin City is a visual treat the delivers again and again.
Review: Sin City is based on the graphic novels (extended length comic books) by Frank Miller. It is the ultimate in film noir and concerns the back alley stories of quite a few bad and not-so-bad guys. Not only does much of this film seem like something from a ...

Pros: brilliant visually, lots of twists and reversals, fun
Cons: not for the Amish or their modern-day kin
The Bottom Line: If you're old enough to buy a ticket, see this film.
Review: There's a line in an Eminem song that says, "I am whatever you say I am." It came to me, again and again, as I sat through Sin City, trying to make sense of this ode to style over substance in a storyline that evokes the ghost of Quentin Tarentino ...

|
Pros: visually stunning - resurrects the classic film noir genre
Cons: too dark, violent, and nihilistic for everyone's tastes
The Bottom Line: The most faithful graphic novel-to-movie translation every filmed.
Review: Sin City is not a pleasant place. It's one of those gloomy cities shrouded in perpetual night, where the streets are slick with an oily sheen of rainwater, even when there haven't been any storms for days. Seedy strip clubs and crumbling tenement ...

As edgy as it gets. |
|||||||
|
Pros: As edgy as it gets, the perfect antidote to puritan whining.
Cons: Possibly too edgy for some.
The Bottom Line: If for nothing else, go for the most amusing (and sick) Pez Dispenser joke you'll ever hear in a movie.
Review: "How edgy is it?" That was the question a friend asked when I made reference to going to see Sin City yesterday. She wanted to know because she likes movies that are edgy. I replied that Sin City is "VERY edgy in a Pulp Fiction sort of way". That ...

Your Kiss, Your Fist, Take In the Extent of My Sin (Reduxed, Ref*cked) |

|
Pros: Miller/Rodriguez/Tarantino's Direction, Script, Music, Look, Cinematography, Editing, Tone, & Cast.
Cons: None Though Might Be Too Graphic for Some (P*ssies).
The Bottom Line: Sin City is a Brilliant, Visually-Inspiring Ode to Film Noir from Robert Rodriguez & Novelist Frank Miller with a Little Help from Quentin Tarantino.
Review: The name Frank Miller to comic book fans is a name that is loved. From his modern look of Batman in the 1980s to the graphic novels known as Sin City. Known for its visual style and narrative that harkens back to film noir, the cult of Sin ...
