Sony CCD-TRV58 Hi8 Camcorder With 2.5" LCD ? But Where Is Image Stabilizer?

by   dkozin , lead in Electronics at Epinions.com ,  Jul 2, 2001
Pros: Picture, features, battery, easy to use, price, looks
Cons: No image stabilizer
The Bottom Line: The TRV58 is an excellent value for those on the tight budget. For less than $350 you get hi-band analog camcorder with a 2.5” LCD...
Review: Remember the not-so-long-ago times when $300-350 would buy you only low-band 8mm/VHS-C camcorder with no LCD? As digital camcorders fell in price, so did the hi-band models, as demonstrated by Sony’s Hi8 model line.

The Sony DCR-TRV58...

Pros: All functioning extras & night shot
Cons: No image stabilizer
The Bottom Line: IF you are looking for a VERY nice looking and working camcorder this is it for lo $
Review: I recently bought one at a yard sale for $5. Yes I said $5. I thought it was an older unit with no flip out LCD but when I got it home I almost had a Heart attack when I took the time to really check it out.I charged the battery and put a new tape in it ...

$350 Even

by   scottyk924 ,  Aug 13, 2001
Pros: Good Picture quality, Fold out Screen
Cons: No Steady Shot! No color view finder
The Bottom Line: Great Value, Hi-8 at its best! Excellent battery life, this camera will record longer on the same battery than any other Sony!
Review: This camera is like a 1996 Honda Civic, it gets the job done reliably. No flashy features, a no nonsense transportation, or in this case, a simple way to record Video. The titling features of this camera are the same as in the Ultra-High Priced models,...

I love this camcorder

by   anakins ,  Jan 13, 2003
Pros: night shot,460x digital zoom, great price
Cons: the battery drains if it hasn't been used for a while.
The Bottom Line: This is a great camcorder. I would buy this same one again. It is very easy to use, and fairly light. I record everything with it!
Review: I think it is a quality camera for a reasonable price. It is very easy to use and fairly light and compact. Even my 12 year old daughter can use it. I love how it can hook up to the TV to view the video, or you can view right on the large screen. I love...

spend the extra 40 dollars

by   ingallm ,  Aug 25, 2001
Pros: low cost, it's a sony
Cons: no image stabilizer
The Bottom Line: great camera for those who have nothing and want to get good quality at a good price. spend the extra money for the image stabilizer though if you can.
Review: This has been a great camcorder for our family. It is easy to turn on and film in a hurry when you don't want to miss those one time events. I wish I had spent the extra money for the steady shot feature which was about 40 dollars more. The battery that...

a decent buy on a budget.

by   blythiee ,  Apr 16, 2002
Pros: decent price, lcd screen, playback option
Cons: doesn't have a feature to reduce jarring when used as a handheld
The Bottom Line: Not fabulous, but certainly decent.
Review: I bought this camera in October and it is a decent, well-working camcorder, but it is missing some feature which would enhance even the novices' experience. For one thing, if you're using the camcorder as a handheld, all natural little bumps and jars...

piece of Junk

by   meatwhistle ,  Dec 7, 2001
Pros: compact size, lower price
Cons: broken after 1 year. short battery life.
The Bottom Line: Buy a higher end unit and save yourself a lot of problems.
Review: Just after the year warranty was up, mine would only record at a slow-motion pace. Sort of like the opposite of Benny Hill. It will cost more to fix than to replace. I am very dissatisfied with Sony customer service. This unit had no more than maybe 8...
