Pros: Available WHQL standalone driver, dust resistance, speed, decent starter cartridge, Parallel & USB2
Cons: No "cancel" button; needs smooth surface; curls paper, but not as bad as some claim.
The Bottom Line: As long as it continues to function reliably, perfect for a minimal user. Entry-level lasers today are flimsier but cost 1/4 as much as yesteryear, "thanks" to China.
Review: I'll try to clarify points made by other reviewers and include some info I've not seen in other reviews on this product, particularly in the first part of this review. Here are a few tips and clarifications which you might find useful: First off, ...

Excellent for home and office!

Pros: Fast, reliable, and prints well
Cons: It's not free or color
The Bottom Line: Very reliable printer, the typical limitations of any printer (it's not free, you need toner), but the best money I've spent for my company!
Review: Back in 2004 I purchased the Brother laser printer. I worked from home, and was printing more and more documents that my color inkjet just couldn't handle. At under $100, it was an excellent buy! I've worked in offices, with all kinds of printers. I ...

Pros: Paper Capacity/Handling, Print Quality & Speed, Intuitive Driver and Control Panel
Cons: None that stand out
The Bottom Line: For a budget laser printer, this can't be beat.
Review: My beloved Konica Minolta PagePro 1350W would need a new drum soon, something I didnt want to spend 120$ on. I was looking out for an equivalent printer, but because of a few nasty quirks (most notably poor graphics quality and the toner reset ...

Pros: Cheap, reasonably priced replacement toner, easy to install, quiet, goes to sleep after print.
Cons: Cannot find any yet.
The Bottom Line: Great buy, although my "good;jams rarely" comment is conservertive. Just got it today.
Review: After reading "Some hidden details, Plus a full review" I went out and bought the printer at Dick Smith Sprinvale for $89 with a two week return facility in case it is in appropriate. Compared to the Samsung ML 1740 I purchased last year the Brother ...

Great, cheap laser printer

Pros: Fast, no problems, large paper holding capacity, CHEAP. CHEAP. CHEAP.
Cons: Fairly loud
The Bottom Line: This is cheap, laser black-and-white printer. If cost is your concern, not colour presentation to others, then buy this.
Review: I bought this printer for the use of printing out 10-20 page PDF documents in a quick timeframe with good quality text. After a couple of days shopping around online in my spare time, I narrowed the choice down to two: a HP Laserjet 1020, or this one, ...

Pros: Easy to install, print is fast and sharp, low price, bypass feeder
Cons: Bypass-fed paper must be held straight while being fed into printer
The Bottom Line: This is a great printer. I keep trying to get my brother to replace his outdated printer with this one.
Review: I had long looked for an affordable black laser printer as a secondary printer to my color inkjet. I found that a good portion of the material I was printing did not require color. I also realized that I didn't print very often, so the ink cartridge ...

Suitable for home network too

Pros: Although not network-ready, works OK as small network printer. Choice and competitive pricing for toner.
Cons: Separate letter and legal trays would be nice, but at this price, can't complain.
The Bottom Line: Good quality print. Paper curl not a problem for me. Haven't tried printing on other than plain paper yet. Works on the home network with my inexpensive print server.
Review: In addition to the positives noted in other reviews, I'd add that the HL-2040 works fine for us as a network printer on our 4-PC home network. I already had a Trendware TE100-P2U1P print server, which can handle one parallel and two USB printers, so ...

Pros: Price, economical operation
Cons: None (for a SOHO printer).
The Bottom Line: Highly recommended keeping in mind it's a SOHO printer and that you're getting a laser printer for under $100.
Review: Having done a lot of web browsing for opinions on this printer, I was a little apprehensive about buying it because of the number of complaints about paper curl. I printed some test pages on the floor model in the store and there is a little bit of ...

Pros: Ultimate in reliability. Quality construction. Great customer service!
Cons: Very loud. Pretty Slow. Paper for this unit is expensive.
The Bottom Line: Top of the line receipt printer for retail point of sale applications. Can be a bit loud and slow however.
Review: All of my customers use this model of Star Micronics printer. Both are being used as receipt printers for take-out/delivery restaurants. One has been in service since 1994; the other since 1998. The first printer broke and was exchanged during the...

Pros: Inexpensive, fast printing, nice quality!
Cons: No cons stand out
Review: In the past, I have spent extra to buy HP printers due to the fact that I had spent several years in computer/printer repair, and knew how to fix them. Recently, when I was in the market for an inexpensive laser printer, I picked up a Brother 2040 ...
