When murder becomes an art form, only FBI Agent Pendergast can solve the case.

by   openroad ,  Mar 5, 2006
Pros: Incredible work by Preston/Child in creating the ominous, disturbing community of Medicine Creek.
Cons: None at all in my opinion, at last another winner from this dynamic duo.
The Bottom Line: For fans of the authors this is exactly what you've been waiting for. At last, a novel that lives up to the quality of Relic.
Review: Medicine Creek, Kansas. In a town where nothing changes, where Main Street is a two-block stretch of old and dusty businesses, a peculiar and ghastly murder has taken place, the body mutilated and placed carefully in an elaborate tableau in the ...

by   meblack28 ,  Aug 29, 2008
Pros: amazingly researched, vivid detail, page turner, scary, excellent characters

The Bottom Line: If your looking for a great mystery Still Life With Crows is your savour. Great detail, an amazing plot, and witty characters will indulge you in this scary thriller.

Noooo ... don't go into the cornfield! Noooooo!

by   cpw1952 ,  Apr 23, 2006
Pros: Magnificent characterization and incredibly mastery setting up a creepy atmosphere!
Cons: No explanation of the extraordinary "powers" of the villain in the piece.
The Bottom Line: Set aside a few hours and dig in!
Review: What do you get when you combine the supercilious fastidiousness and overbearing punctiliousness of Hercule Poirot; the intensity, pure logic and deductive power of Sherlock Holmes; the austerity, speed, focus, lightning reflexes, innate strength and ...

The more you read, the more you want to read

by   CindiLou ,  Aug 19, 2005
Pros: Draws you in. The more you read the harder it is to put down.
Cons: Leaves you wanting more information on Pendergast.
The Bottom Line: Highly recommend reading. It's not your typical murder mystery. Brings together history, murder, serial killers, and small town people.
Review: My sister lent me this book and told me I needed to read it. Our tastes run pretty much the same so I was looking forward to it. Still Life With Crows takes place in a small Kansas town that is slowly dying. The town, Medicine Creek, is in competition ...

Still Life? Perhaps Still Characters...

by   randolf_g ,  Aug 19, 2006
Pros: Suspenseful, exciting at points
Cons: Character development is terrible, lots of useless swearing, strange narration
The Bottom Line: If you're into suspense, it's not a bad choice. Just don't expect any characters to leap out at you. This book would make a better movie.
Review: While working at a summer camp, I received this book as part of an exceptionally large care package from a very kind relative. After devouring the candy, I took a look at the back of the novel and contemplated whether I wanted to read it or not. I had ...
