Repeat Forester Owner

by   mrhonda ,  Dec 29, 2004
Pros: SAFE, looks great, big moonroof, tons of options, did I mention it's SAFE?
Cons: Loud security system, cupholder placement, no cruise control indicator light, no locking gas cap
The Bottom Line: From reliability and safety, to comfort and style, to great performance and fun, you can't go wrong with a Forester.
Review: First of all, I am a repeat Forester owner. I'm right now driving a 2001 Red Forester S Model with the Premium Package and automatic transmission. This is my second Forester and I will probably be buying them until they stop making them, they become ...

The 2001 Subaru Forester: Fit For My Queen

by   happy2000usa ,  Jul 28, 2000
Pros: Great Vehicle, zippy, best value SUV on the market
Cons: No side impact airbags offered in any but the high end models
Review: This is the end. Fini. No more. I shall not darken the epinions auto door again. I am mechanically oriented, but I hate car shopping. I write this epinions as the grand finale of our recent marathon shopping spree.

My wife wanted power....

Fantastic Used Car Value - Think Station Wagon on Viagra

by   jcgrow ,  Jun 8, 2004
Pros: Beautiful, smooth-running, rugged, practical, safe, family-sized
Cons: A few small quirks by no means outweigh the strengths of this car
The Bottom Line: 2001 Forester is the best used car on the market. The Car Guys love it, a good all-purpose vehicle for young families, with safety, aesthetics, practicality and reliability combined.
Review: I first drove a 2001 Forester a few years back as a rental car. It was in the Rocky Mountains out West, and I marveled at the way that the Forester could pickup going steeply uphill and handle the back roads, with all their ruts and rugged turns. The ...

Honeymoon off but on again

by   rednosedog ,  Dec 23, 2005
Pros: Design, and driving experience that only get better the deeper you look.
Cons: Disgraceful failure of fundamental components; old school, confrontational service staff of marginal competence.
The Bottom Line: Oh yes. Dealers must try harder but the engineers are great.
Review: I was in the same boat as the majority of the people here who love their car. It gets better gas mileage than a similar CRV or RAV 4, has more advanced drivetrain, a brilliant engine that uses no balance shafts and successfully defied General Motor's ...

As good with 40,000 miles as it was new

by   e_l_green ,  Feb 18, 2003
Pros: Power, comfort, luxury, safety for good price
Cons: Flimsy/inadequate cupholders, won't handle more rugged "jeep trails" to get to trailheads
The Bottom Line: Best small SUV of 2001
Review: I've now had my 2001 Forester S+ with automatic transmission for 40,000 miles. The four-wheel anti-lock disk brakes have saved my bacon several times, the 165 horsepower of the 2.5L boxer engine is more than adequate for merging with freeway traffic, and...

The Perfect Town and Country SUV

by   sheiertchr ,  Oct 12, 2002
Pros: Extremely comfortable and nimble handling. Perfect for city and highway.
Cons: A bit underpowered for full passenger and cargo loads.
The Bottom Line: If I had only one car it would be the Forester. Since I have four, they are all AWD Subarus.
Review: This is the FOURTH Subaru in the family "fleet". The AWD is a godsend.

Have used the vehicle for both daily commuting in New York City and for road trips from New York to Florida.

Plenty of cargo space and creature comforts....

Zip, economy and AWD!

by   tom_reynolds ,  May 20, 2000
Pros: AWD works well in snow, lots of standard equipment, gas mileage
Cons: You may have to shop for price on the 2001
Review: We recently purchased a 2001 Subaru Forester S model. We love it! We traded in a 1994 Nissan Pathfinder 4X4. We had excellent service from the Pathfinder but I did not like the gas mileage it got (17 tops on the road)or the power when traveling in the...

the beautious 2001 Forester

by   sagefire21 ,  Sep 10, 2000
Pros: axle and power distrobution, ABS, AC, power everything, tons of standard options, great warranty and road-side assistance comes inc., interior and exterior lights, handling, compartments, gas intake and miles to the gallon, roof rack, and just EXTREMELY PR
Cons: seats a little uncomfortable, 1 cup holder is oddly placed, no vanity mirrors or cigarette lighter, interior and exterior color combinations, musical acoustics could be better, aerodynamics not the best, not that many radio station program buttons, scannin
Review: It's a shame that my dealer who sold my mom and me the 2001 Subaru Forester L was the worst dealer on the face of the planet. He probably does not deserve to wear an honored Subaru dealer nametag, but I'm passed all of that because the love for my...

A reasonable SUV

by   nprnyc ,  Aug 21, 2000
Pros: good size and gas-efficient performance
Cons: cup holders! (that's it)
Review: Think of the Forester as a polite, functional SUV that doesn't rub it in your face. As an anti-SUV person, I justified getting this vehicle because it has a 4-cylinder engine and gets more than 20MPG, is parallel-parkable in tight NYC spots, and has...

Owned it for a month so far....

by   scooleen ,  Jun 13, 2000
Pros: Smooth, stable, quiet, excellent AC
Cons: Remote/keyless entry loud, cup holder gets in way while shifting
Review: I bought my first new car just one month ago, it of course being the 2001 Subaru Forester. I wanted a car that I could take into the snow and sand, but not pay for it.

My model is the five speed "L" model, but if you are serious...
