Ya can't take the Texan out of this gal!

by   italianmommy97 ,  Aug 9, 2000
Pros: great articles
Cons: none
Review: I have been a subscriber to this magazine for about four years now. Now that I have left Texas and I am homesick, I anxiously await the arrival of my issue each month.

It's the one magazine my husband and I fight over.

I know...

Ahh, Texans, ya gotta love'em

by   badmom ,  May 18, 2000
Pros: great source of information about Texas for residents and visitors
Cons: loaded with advertisements
Review: If you plan a visit to the lower 1/4 of the US, namely that huge hunk of real estate better known as Texas, be prepared for a definite culture shock. These people down here just think different than most of the rest of the states. Maybe it's that sun...

Texas, Yes!

by   Susansell ,  Dec 23, 1999
Pros: Informative, relevant, timely.
Cons: To many advertising inserts.
Review: I have been a subscriber of Texas Monthly for 8 years. Nine years ago I did not need a subscription because I lived in Texas and there was always one available at my mother's.
It is great if you live in Texas for the reviews of restaurants and...

I get Texas daily but...

by   BlackCat2 ,  Dec 1, 2000
Pros: Great photos and graphics, Some good articles, good for finding things to do if you want to stick to major cities.
Cons: Not enough information on the smaller towns, layout need some work in places.
Review: I live in Texas so I am surrounded by things Texan every day. However Texas is such a big state that I can't possibly be everywhere at once or even hope to visit every place in Texas.

This is where Texas Monthly comes in. I love...

Good read,slight aftertaste

by   foxfroggy ,  Jan 29, 2000
Pros: excellent taste of Texas life and culture
Cons: high advertising ratio, relative unavailability outside the state
Review: Howdy, Ya'll! I hereby confess to being an unreconstructed, native-born Texan. Subject to the bit of possibly-justified pride we are born with, I would still recommend Texas Monthly to residents and non-residents alike.

For Texans, this...

Here's Your Monthly Howdy!

by   mrkstvns ,  Feb 24, 2005
Pros: Diverse range of articles, well written and professionally edited
Cons: Too much big business, too many high-dollar ads
The Bottom Line: Texas Monthly is a fairly decent regional interest magazine. It shines when it focuses on the people and the culture, but dulls when focusing on politicos...
Review: Just about every grocery store checkout line in the Lone Star State sports a rack of Texas Monthly issues near the cash register. Usually, it's tantalizingly close to the stack of People magazines, but never too close to the ...

Texas Monthly: Just Like The Rio Grande River.

by   AytchMan ,  Jan 28, 2001
Pros: Good Writing, Good Production Values
Cons: Little Depth, Loaded With Ads
The Bottom Line: Pass. The magazine has good writing but no focus.
Review: That's right, Sparky, you're not from Texas but Texas wants you anyway. At least, Texas Monthly does. Here in Austin, we're not so sure but thanks for askin'.

We're A'Fixin' To Get On Goin'.
Texas Monthly (TM) is a...

Missing the mark

by   brad_morris ,  Feb 14, 2000
Pros: Texas perspective
Cons: Poorly organized, way too many special advertising sections
Review: I have subscribed to Texas Monthly for the last year and will not be renewing. While there are positive features in this magazine it has too many things working against it. Perhaps my biggest pet peeve is the glut of "Special Advertising...
