Pros: A complex, interesting story
Cons: Bloody ending, if that bothers you.
Review: A young couple, a tame bear, Arthurian legend, a man who has visited other planets, and a tale of good and evil. This is the C.S. Lewis novel, That Hideous Strength.

That hideous strength: A long pretentious review |
|||
|
Pros: Thought-provoking allegory.
Cons: Conservative in its attitudes to the proper roles of men and women in society.
The Bottom Line: Tolkien for grown-ups who prefer novels to romances.
Review: Science bad: literature good. Revolution bad: conformity good. At the end of the Second World War tensions were beginning to surface in the universities of England. The work of scientists had contributed much to the prosecution of the war, and indeed ...

Pros: subtle; but wears its erudition lightly
Cons: ending a bit too easy
The Bottom Line: Read Lewis' Abolition of Man by all means, then come to this

Pros: Strong Writing, adept allegory and insight into post WWII thinking.
Cons: Marked change in style from previous 2 book in trilogy.
The Bottom Line: This work feels disconnected from the others. "Bent," if you will. Once you get over that you will have a fresh appreciation of his unique voice and writing skills.
Review: I raved about the first 2 books of this trilogy. I can't about the last. Lewis makes a very significant change in his voice and approach here in the final book of his "Space Trilogy." Knowing some of the history of its writing, this is in large ...

Pros: Ties up loose ends
Cons: Dark; disturbing; not like other Lewis books.
Review: I read Lewis's space trilogy for a high school Creative Writing and Reading course my senior year. I liked the first book, loved the second and was sorely disappointed in this last book. Although I have read many Lewis books and are familiar with his...
