Puppy Raising IS an Art

by   sherrylee ,  Jan 12, 2000
Pros: Puppy raising, socialization & training from birth through adulthood
Cons: None that I'm aware of
Review: This book was written by the Monks of New Skete, a monastic community in New York state. Many people in the modern world are not familiar with the monastic lifestyle, and generally think of monks as men who spend their time praying in dim, candle lit...

Foundation for a lasting relationship

by   kodoz ,  Apr 7, 2000
Pros: Comprehensive, dare I say 'definitive'
Cons: none

Getting a New Puppy? Get this book

by   rtange ,  Nov 9, 2000
Pros: Comprehensive, Well Written and Positive Reinforcing
Cons: None
Review: The Monks of New Skete are in fact monks that have been highly involved in training dogs. While this may sound odd to you, I would suggest putting aside religious preconceptions and look at their book the Art of Raising a Puppy. This book will start...

Cons: none
Review: I have read literally thousands of books on dog training, and over the years, "The Art of Raising A Puppy" has come to be my bible on raising a well adjusted puppy of any breed.

As a breeder, making sure the puppies I place grow into...

Not just a training manual

by   billjitsu ,  Sep 10, 2005
Pros: Lots of in-depth information about dogs, dog behavior, and effective training techniques.
Cons: Actual training is not covered until late in the book.
The Bottom Line: This book has good information and thorough coverage of the topic.
Review: I bought this book because I thought it would be a good training manual for my new puppy. It turned out to be a lot more, which is a mixed blessing. It's great in that it gives a lot of information about how dogs act when they are pregnant, the bond ...
