Pros: Well written, heady subject matter, emotionally evocative
Cons: some topics are disturbing...
The Bottom Line: Must read.
Review: The Color Purple is a story that will make your heart ache to read it. From the very first page, the reader is forcefully gripped. This. This is what it was like. Brutal. Evocative. Hopeful.
Celie is a young black woman who, for... |

Pros: inspirational
Cons: language may be hard to read, not for the sensitive
The Bottom Line: The Color Purple is a story of one woman's triumph over her hardships.
Review: I first read Alice Walker's The Color Purple when I was in high school. And no, I didn't read it for a class. I read it for fun. I had found it sitting in my mother's room, and remembered her asking me if I wanted to see The Color Purple when it was in...

Pros: great emotional impact; remarkable characters; beautiful message about life; strong social comment
Cons: very sad; disturbing scenes - not for young readers
The Bottom Line: The Color Purple is one of those rare books that stay with you long after you're done with it. Its lesson about living is truly beautiful.
Review: The Color Purple is a book that explores the full spectrum of human emotion and experiences - from despair to joy and everything in between with incredible skill. The novel not only impacted me emotionally with its story of courage and...

Pros: The most perfect book I have ever read, endearing, triumphant, spiritual, moving,
Cons: None at all
Review: .....and you don't notice it." This is one of my favorite lines in this book.
This book gave me back my love of reading. As a child, I was a voracious reader, and could often be found in my treehouse, with a bottle of... |

Pros: Alice Walker is a prolific author with phenomenal command of characterization and plot.
Cons: Parts of the book are very graphic and sometimes disturbing.
The Bottom Line: My favorite book of all time. I recommend it to family and friends all of the time. Buy it and see the movie!
Review: I read this book for the first time in college and it changed my life. I studied it in at least three more of my classes and it never once got boring. This novel is a story of true human spirit and it shows the power of unconditional love, but also how ...

Pros: --

Review: Celie has to endure more abuse in a short period of time than anyone should in a lifetime - and that only describes what her stepfather did to her.
Told only to discuss her situation with God, she details, in a series of letters to Him, the... |

Pros: Everything in so many ways
Cons: Not a thing
Review: I saw the movie first run in the theaters. After I saw the movie, I read the book. After I read the book, I cried. I have to say that I have only been able to read the book and see the movie once. Please do not take that as negative. I believe ...

Pros: Concise regarding the challenges that Celie had to face
Cons: Would have liked to known what became of the relationship of Celie and Mister.
Review: This book was very moving from the first page to the last. The language might be a slight challenge for some. There were some slow moving chapters near the end but overall I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone looking to read a ...

Pros: Very powerful; "Deep" yet written in very colloquial text.
Cons: Sometimes manipulative and boring when it comes to the character Nettie
The Bottom Line: If you give it a chance, this'll be a truly satisfactory read that will take you through all shades of life and put new meaning on your own.
Review: I am not even kidding, this is a coloring book. Alice Walkers The Color Purple is a read that will add color to your life. Even though it starts off excruciatingly painful and depressing after you are done reading and set the book aside, it...
