Lost In Latifah's Spell: Hard To Deny This Record's Force |
|||
|
Pros: masterful covers done by an extremely interpretive singer
Cons: young folks won't be as interested, not a lot of energy
The Bottom Line: Finals are over: Chem (90), AP Us History (100), English (100), Pre Cal (76), Econ (100), Humanities (I don't know)
Review: When a well-established, rewarded artist decides that they want to try and create a career in a genre polarly opposite to their first, record labels and fans alike hold their breath. Depending on how the artist approaches their craft, it could be a ...

Pros: Queen's rich voice paired with well-loved songs, showcasing her true talent in R&B/jazz form
Cons: Not for hip-hop/rap fans, this is a mature version of Queen Latifah!
The Bottom Line: This album is outstanding in it's genre. I'm glad Queen Latifah's talent matured to this point. Her voice is astounding, the music outstanding, overall a winning combination!
Review: The Dana Owens Album fits into the R&B genre like a velvet glove. Co-producer Arif Marden showcases Queen Latifah in her best yet performances. She has come of age in her role as a singer of substance, surpassing her history of hip-hop/rap artist. With ...

Pros: Wonderful adaptations and vocals
Cons: none
The Bottom Line: The beauty of this woman's voice is not to be denied.
Review: Pour a cup of Dinah Washington, add a pinch or two of Sarah Vaughn and season it with Queen Latifah's sass and you have the perfect recipe for the new Dana Owens album. To those who say Queen Latifah has let her public down I say No Way! Several ...

Who Is Dana Owens And What Has She Done With Queen Latifah? |
|||
|
Pros: Latifah takes a musical left-turn and records an album of quasi-standards, Norah Jones-style.
Cons: Latifah gives it the college try, but some tunes just don't stick to the ribs.
The Bottom Line: If you're a fan of traditional pop music, this album will be a pleasant surprise. Latifah shows she's got some tricks up her sleeve on this collection of pop/jazz standards.
Review: In the midst of blinding success in several other facets of the entertainment industry, it's pretty easy to forget that Queen Latifah was once a vaguely successful female rapper. Blending female empowerment-inspired lyrics with the ability to sing her ...
