The Moon & Antarctica: Drinkin' Coca Cola with Modest Mouse

by   lambchops , lead in Music at Epinions.com ,  Dec 13, 2004
Pros: Some amazing songs, entertaining lyrics, diverse arrangements
Cons: Bogs down a little in the middle.
The Bottom Line: Great indie (or is it mainstream?) pop from an oft overlooked band. Modest Mouse impresses me with The Moon & Antarctica.
Review: It took until the rest of the world also stumbled upon Modest Mouse for me to get a taste of the band. I am embarrassed to admit that it took so long to discover such an exuberant, intelligent, and well rounded band. Boasting some of the most appealing ...

Everything that Keeps Me Together Is Falling Apart

by   rancid1993 ,  Mar 20, 2007
Pros: It's Great From Start to Finish
Cons: None, really
The Bottom Line: Come drink Coca Cola with Modest Mouse.
Review: Modest Mouse is a band that has blown up in the last couple of years, especially with their last CD Good News for People Who Like Bad News. One of the singles, Float On, was played endlessly on the radio and the band enjoyed popularity it hadn't had in ...

The Moon and Antarctica; I know where you're from, but where do you belong?

by   salivation ,  Aug 27, 2005
Pros: Smart, clever, fun, eery. Like finding the center of the universe, and it's a dancefloor.
Cons: Product placement. Drinking Coca Cola. Nissan commercials. Satan. Satan. Satan.
The Bottom Line: It's Modest Mouse's loudest, grandest statement. And there's more to it than on a cursory listen. It's as close to a masterpiece as these guys are gonna get, I figure.
Review: It's 3 a.m. and the sheets are suffocating you. Beneath the curl of your cracked, pale lips, barely a breath comes out. You get up and sit down in your chair, a creaking scream of wood emanates, "Get offa me!". and so you refuse, and so the chair ...

The moon and ant... wait, what?

by   frankiethefir ,  Nov 1, 2004
Pros: Intelligent songs not too heavy yet not too light.
Cons: They are a little full of themselves.
The Bottom Line: A solid, though not life-changing, glimpse of what rock should be.
Review: If any given person goes onto a guitar-based chatroom they will find without fail a debate about rock being dead, alive, asleep, or some combination thereof. Also without fail there's somebody saying 'oh yeah? you think rock is dead? check out Modest ...

Mighty Mouse!

by   philmgerm ,  Feb 22, 2005
Pros: creative; good live performances; better than other mainstream junk
Cons: sometimes their sound gets annoying
Review: This is a prety solid album from start to finish. It may not be for the average music listener, but those into various forms of indie-rock should dig it. Modest Mouse has a distinct sound that you'll either love or hate. They are creative, ...
