The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt: "When the wolf rises in the heart..."

by   mkp51 ,  Mar 10, 2002
Pros: Superbly written with great style; insightful and historically accurate.
Cons: None
The Bottom Line: The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt captures the essence of its subject, making him completely relevant to today’s readers.
Review: The year 2001, tragically marred as it was by the terrorist attacks on the United States, also marked a happier but less conspicuous milestone: the centenary of Theodore Roosevelt's ascension to the Presidency of the United States.

Pros: Thorough, complete, a masterpiece
Cons: The introduction is a bit difficult to ascertain, but the main biography proves clear
The Bottom Line: Like Roosevelt's "big" and "vast" America, Morris's biography is "big": with the shear number of facts, perfection of description and 780 page content, this is the ultimate resource.

by   WBDBaj ,  Mar 3, 2003
Pros: Very thorough in its coverage, parts are very readable - like a novel
Cons: Some of the political history is confusing, slow, and dull
The Bottom Line: Thorough, timely, descriptive, almost like a novel. The definitive story of the rise of TR to the presidency.
Review: Theodore Roosevelt lost his father at a young age, and his mother and first wife too shortly thereafter (on the same day, no less). But if there was ever a right-thinking person who sought out other right-thinkers, it had to be Theodore "Teddy"...
