Offerings to the God of Speed The World's Fastest Indian

by   kilted1 ,  Feb 14, 2009
Pros: Acting Brilliant, Directing Brilliant, Action Thrilling
Cons: none
The Bottom Line: A fine film for anyone looking for a hero in the oddest of places ... you will stand up and cheer wildly.
Review: Anthony Hopkins is wonderful in this stirring and engaging tale of a very unlikely, quirky hero.  Based upon the real life Burt Munroe who embarks on a thrilling odyssey to set the world land speed record on his mostly home made Indian ...

Fame may be fleeting, but not for an old geezer named Burt Munro.

by   needtovent-com ,  Aug 18, 2008
Pros: Well-crafted film blessed with Hopkins' flawless performance.
Cons: Possibly a few minutes too long for the MTV Generation.
The Bottom Line: A clunky contraption, man and machine as one, the rickety relic and the cantankerous old Kiwi establishing a world's speed record that still stands today.
Review: If ever there was a titularly-challenged movie THE WORLD'S FASTEST INDIAN is it. No, this superb, subtly inspirational film isn't a Biograph biopic about the legendary Jim Thorpe, nor is it a Bollywood sports film featuring a Mumbaian marathoner, nor is ...

A good time at the movies including an outsider's look at Hollywood in the 60s

by   dmeltz ,  Feb 27, 2006
Pros: Entertaining, engaging, uplifting, funny and poignant.
Cons: None.
The Bottom Line: For fans of excellent film that does not depend on special effects this is a must-see. Worth seeing on the big screen
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this film and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys good storytelling and independent film. While it does have a name star in Anthony Hopkins, it is really the true story of the main character that is the main attraction. What an ...

A Movie For Those Addicted To Speed (the 200 M.P.H. Kind!)

by   Ed.Williamson , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  Jun 23, 2006
Pros: A tribute to nice guys with unbending spirits.
Cons: Maybe a touch too sweet and lucky in places.
The Bottom Line: This is a great story about a real man who beat the odds in his own way. You'll find it thumbs-up fun!
Review: This is a great movie for (a) those who love speed, (b) anyone who wants to watch an “upper” of a movie, or (b) maybe most important of all, those who are moving up in the age brackets and need a reminder that aging is largely a mind-thing. I ...

Going Flat Out

by   heidifromoz , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  May 1, 2006
Pros: Engaging characters, superbly acted, great cinematography; humorous yet moving. Inspiring story.
Cons: Starts a little slowly, but none really.
The Bottom Line: A man’s dream brought reality against the odds. Excellent performances by Anthony Hopkins and supporting cast, very funny vignettes offset serious main theme. Awesome cinematography.
Review: Story Setting - late sixties. Location - New Zealand (Invercargill) and USA (Bonneville, Utah). Burt Munro (Anthony Hopkins), approaching his seventies, with a chronic heart problem, has followed a dream all his life – to break the world ...

Catch up with The World's Fastest Indian

by   ms_mina ,  Apr 29, 2006
Pros: Totally human, pulls at your heart strings!
Cons: None for me.
The Bottom Line: See this movie if you feel like an easy to watch film which will pull at your heartstrings.
Review: When I first heard of this movie I had no idea what it was going to be about and the only draw card was that I knew Anthony Hopkins was in it. After seeing a few trailers at the movies and on television I figured it was about a man who wanted to ride his ...

Another solid, low budget film. Hollywood, take note.

by   triniman ,  Mar 26, 2006
Pros: solid acting, compelling story
Cons: none
The Bottom Line: Not an overblown Hollywood film. Refreshingly modest production with a compelling story.
Review: Old eccentric Burt Munro decides to travel to the Bonneville Salt Flats to set the land speed record for his 1920 Indian motorcycle in 1962. He's next to being broke and has a heart condition. He's also bit of a loon with his habit urinating every ...

'Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night': The World's Fastest Indian

by   trust12345 , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  Dec 3, 2005
Pros: Hopkins, basic story, relationship with neighboring boy
Cons: Formulaic, long and drawn out in places, somewhat mawkish
The Bottom Line: The film will either inspire you to chase your dreams, or to roll your eyes. Either way, it’s a touching and a fine tribute to a strange and wonderful man.
Review: I attended an early screening of The World’s Fastest Indian (2005) knowing nothing about the film except that it starred Anthony Hopkins. The “Indian” of the title refers to a kind of motorcycle that real-life New Zealander Burt Munro ...
