Highly recommend it

by   agiyo ,  Jul 4, 2002
Pros: Excellent performance regardless of the price, but the price is RIGHT!
Cons: Faster lens would be nice, but that'd add bulk, weight and expense.
The Bottom Line: Buy it and use it. Amazing value.
Review: Farm's earlier review provides comprehensive and accurate technical details; I only want to add my endorsement.

Before I bought this lens, I feared distortion would be bad, flare worse, and that it would be none too sharp. All my fears were...

Great amateur lens

by   nevets3 ,  May 13, 2002
Pros: Inexpensive, great range, decent build
Cons: No lens hood
The Bottom Line: For the price, you can't beat this lens.
Review: I bought this lens from Adorama just before a trip to NYC with the idea that the wide range might come in handy here and there... well, it stayed on my camera for most of the trip and the results have been impressive!

I am only an amateur...

Tokina 20 - 35mm f/3.5-4.5 Gets it all and gets my approval

by   sweeper , lead in Electronics at Epinions.com ,  Jul 6, 2000
Pros: A highly useful tool and great value in a wide-angle zoom
Cons: Rotating front element makes filter use awkward
Review: Of the four lenses that make up my outdoor and travel kit, the wide angle zoom gets the most use. My Tokina AF 20 - 35mm f/3.5 - 4.5 is used more than the other three combined. I've grown to rely on this useful and dependable optic for many shots that...

Lots of Quality for the Money

by   colonialpara , top reviewer in Electronics at Epinions.com ,  Nov 8, 2002
Pros: Value Oriented Wide Angle That'll Stretch Your Buying Dollars!
Cons: Lack Of Lens Hood, must be purchased separately.
The Bottom Line: Well worth the money spent and offers a large saving over the equivalent lens from the camera manufacturers
Review: PLEASE NOTE:  This is a review for the NIKON version of this lens.  Currently there is no listing for it here at Epinions.I am a recent novitiate to the world of Nikon AF 35 mm photography after years of using Minolta X-370s ...

Wide-angle on a Budget (for Nikon AF-D)

by   6foot3 ,  Apr 30, 2002
Pros: Low cost, works with Nikon D-type autofocus.
Cons: Focusing ring too loose, flare problems caused by Tokina not supplying lens hood.
The Bottom Line: Only flare vulnerability and a poor focusing ring prevent a 5 star rating.
Review: It is well known to any photographer that the cost of lens kits is often through the roof. It is often the case that the lens is more expensive than the camera.
While looking at a way to do wide-angle photography I came across this Tokina lens....

Good Choice for Wide Angle Enthusiasts

by   whitesf ,  Jul 16, 2001
Pros: Good zoom range for landscapes and large group photos. Quiet, fast focusing.
Cons: 77mm filter size. Didn't come with lens hood.
The Bottom Line: Buy it if you need a wide angle and you aren't ready to pay $1000 for a professional piece of glass.
Review: This lens is great for those who want a really wide angle lens without selling the house to get it. I think for most non-professional applications, this lens will perform just fine.

great lens for the price

by   markusg ,  Jul 8, 2002
Pros: price
Cons: vignetting,
The Bottom Line: Do not regret buying at all. would recommend
Review: I purchased this lens to take landscapes. I recently took it to Alaska, British Columbia and mount St. Helens. The lense is great with my pentax pz-1p. I was worried about the light measuring, since I have read it is a problem with wide angles so I tried...

Great Value in WA Zoom

by   DuckU ,  Oct 9, 2000
Pros: Light weight, compact, quite sharp
Cons: low contrast when lens flare occurs
Review: I got this lens on a lark about a year ago from B+H Photo which is a great discount dealer by the way. I didn't use it much but did test it and it performed excellently. Very sharp and surprisingly modest distortion even at the widest setting. The...

Good start

by   rayho ,  Jan 10, 2003
Pros: cheap, came with lens hood in UK, sharp enough
Cons: not the sharpest
The Bottom Line: Recommended for trying out wide angle, but not as main lens.
Review: I bought this as my starter lens, whilst I choose my main lens which will be a standard zoom. The Tokina was cheap in comparason to others and always get decent reviews either online or in print.

Not the sharpest lens out there, but...
