Navigator 5 best car 'navigation' software on market

by   wgunkel ,  Jul 6, 2006
Pros: Easy to use. Great 3D Maps. Not tied to any specific hardware
Cons: Can not customize menus - few user options for screen layout
The Bottom Line: IF you want hardware independent, low cost, feature rich, street based navigation software this is it. I strongly recommend TomTom Navigator 5 software
Review: GPS is the modern day equivalent of the blinking 12:00 on early VCR, ether you understand it or you do not. Many people misjudge the software because they do not understand GPS. I have been in the GPS field since the very early days when only the ...

Really happy & really disappointed

by   mrcycling ,  May 1, 2005
Pros: Beautiful & intuitive GUI, clear & loud instructions
Cons: Dumb keyboard (A,B,C), voice not say street names, no map stitching
The Bottom Line: Tough to say dude: a few "hits" and many "misses" makes it a dissapointing choice, however, it works well...
Review: ;-) Please see updates at end, thank you/merci!! I have owned the TomTom 2004 Navigation software for 1 month now; following is my humble assessment of it. In my professional life, I am a management consultant (working in the software development ...

The device might be okay, but their customer service is horrible

by   riwhite ,  Dec 2, 2005
Pros: Seems like a neet device. Other people who have it working say it's really nice.
Cons: This is an excellent example of doing absolutely everything wrong from the first step.
The Bottom Line: It might be a fine product, once I get it working. I will avoid buying from this company in the future.
Review: I received a TomTom Navigator 5 as a gift three days ago. I attempted to install it yesterday, and had a problem with the install, including rebooting my computer, and also rebooting my Treo 650 two or three times. Once I did get it installed, it asked ...

Hopeful, frustrating, the usual problems

by   davidstewart10 ,  May 17, 2006
Pros: price and the fact that it works with the Palm Tungsten E2... good price
Cons: can't use single maps that work together even though the states are contiguous in reality
Review: All in all ok for the Palm Tungsten E2... I am most frustrated by the fact that you can't select single maps or even regional maps that even though contiguous in real life the program will not allow the device to follow from one map to the next... you ...

About Useless

by   opey ,  Feb 7, 2005
Pros: OK if you already know your route Large keyboard buttons Great marketing
Cons: Segmented (non)routing Can't route you in many, many, many situations POI mostly unusable
The Bottom Line: Get a dedicated Magellan or Garmin unit, or if you want a PDA unit and don't mind using a stylus to enter addresses, the ALK CoPilot.
Review: I used the Hertz Neverlost system by Magellan on a week-long trip, and later a borrowed Garmin 2610 on a two-day trip, both which made navigating so easy I knew I had to get one for myself. While different, both basically had many common-sense features ...

Do NOT Buy TomTom Navigator

by   fnulnu00 ,  Mar 23, 2005
Pros: None
Cons: Complicated user hostile product activation. Poor customer support.
The Bottom Line: Do not buy TomTom Navigator. Product activation is a nighmare, it is buggy, destructive, and has no user friendly customer support.
Review: Do not buy TomTom Navigator. Product activation is a nighmare, it is buggy, destructive, and has no user friendly customer support. I have two copies, the original, and a replacement from my retailer. Neither will activate. When installing TomTom it ...
