Great American Western Movies: Tombstone

by   Ed.Williamson , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  Jan 30, 2007
Pros: A fine Western which expands the tradition of Western movies.
Cons: The story is almost too big and ambitious for the portrayal.
The Bottom Line: Tombstone is rich with many actors and the story and sub-plots are compelling. Val Kilmer, especially, gave us a great performance here.
Review: Tombstone (1993) is one of the greatest American Western movies ever to come out of Hollywood. I place it in the top ten Westerns of all time. It may be my favorite Western film. Tombstone the movie, starring Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer, ...

Tombstone, Val Kilmer Steals the Show of the OK Corral Expanded. Own This DVD!!.

by   popsrocks ,  Dec 6, 2007
Pros: Memorable lines and well formed relationships
Cons: Nothing worth noting
The Bottom Line: This was a western that gave the feel of the wild west with memorable characters and performances. It's a favorite movie of mine.
Review: I added Tombstone to my collection of iPod Movies a couple of months ago. I never saw it on the big screen and I suppose that was my loss. Though I have yet to appreciate the full open shots of the wild west it was the acting and storyline that ...

This movie is a daisy.

by   countessa ,  Jul 8, 2002
Pros: Outstanding cast.
Cons: I need more Doc Holliday, and less of everyone else... then again, I'm biased.
The Bottom Line: Tombstone brings the Wild West back to life. I recommend it to those who love westerns... and even those who don't. There is something here for everyone.
Review: Loved the cast, loved the plot, loved the costumes, loved it all. This movie is the definition of brilliant. The ultimate western of westerns. After seeing it for the first time, I felt like like writing a letter to everyone involved with the movie,...

The Wild West is Alive in Tombstone

by   Rocketgirl ,  Oct 29, 2000
Pros: Great action, great acting
Cons: Ending is a little anti-climactic
Review: I have long been a fan of Kurt Russell, from his days as an actor for Disney. I figured he couldn't help but make this a good movie. And it was a good movie. Though Val Kilmer nearly stole the show!

There were two movies that came out in...

Saddle Up!

by   ecn71270 ,  Jan 26, 2002
Pros: Acting; western cinematography; sets
Cons: May not be completely accurate to the actual story--but this is a minor quibble
The Bottom Line: Tremendous action, acting, cinematography, and music--all the important ingredients for a Western movie are in abundance here
Review: The story of legendary Kansas lawman Wyatt Earp and his good friend Doc Holliday has been the subject of countless books, TV shows and, not surprisingly, movies. Three of the best known examples were John Ford's 1946 film MY DARLING CLEMENTINE (with...

Tombstone: Rock solid movie with a great cast

by   evilghost ,  Mar 7, 2006
Pros: movie greatness with tons of talent contributing to the success of Tombstone
Cons: Bill Paxton's character is too effeminate. If this was intentional, sobeit.
The Bottom Line: This movie is not to be missed. I guarantee you will like this flick. If you don't, you're already a skeleton in a box.
Review: Tombstone gives us a sensationalized version of true events involving Wyatt Earp and the town of Tombstone. When Wyatt gives up being a law officer he relocates to Tombstone with his wife, two brothers and their families. Their plan is to strike it ...

Loosely Historical, But Tight Entertainment

by   moonmoods_52 ,  Dec 2, 1999
Pros: entertaining script, great directing, excellent acting
Cons: many historical inaccuracies
Review: As much as I love this movie, I am here to say that "Tombstone" (1993) is great entertainment but poor history. I saw this movie before I read up on it and saw a documentary on the History Channel about Wyatt Earp. These two sources cured me...

"Tell them I'm coming! And hell's coming with me!"

by   JackFoley ,  Nov 28, 2000
Pros: Val Kilmer, dialogue, action, heart, Kurt Russell
Cons: Over-the-top moments from all, but they add to the charm
The Bottom Line: Filled with fun performances and the best of what we all love in a western. It has a strength to it that will make it age very well.
Review: If there is one genre of film that is 100% American, it is the Western. It was the first popular movie genre, and the source of our first movie stars. John Wayne is obvious, but it seems that every classic actor has a western classic on his resume...
