Pros: Slim. Plays most video formats out there. Excellent for CD playback.
Cons: None.
Review: This DVD player has played everything I've thrown at it, even DVD-RW and +RW discs which sometimes give problems. So far, every downloaded DIVX and XVID file has worked like a charm. The unit is very slim, quiet, and the remote is nicely laid out ...

Pros: Very easy to set up and operate, plays DVDs, CDs, and MP3s, extra functions
Cons: Some style issues, CD track blue screen tends to be shaky
The Bottom Line: If you just want a basic DVD player and don't want to pay a lot, you will be happy with this unit.
Review: R.I.P. my old DVD player. A while ago I had an unfortunate incident with my Netflix copy of Memoirs of a Geisha, causing the little guy to close his jaws, never to be opened again. I cannot survive for more than a day without Netflix, so this incident ...

Great bargain DivX player

Pros: Good MPEG-4 support, multi-region PAL/NTSC, good subtitle support
Cons: No TOSLINK, useless front display
The Bottom Line: If you want a cheap DivX player, this is the one to get. If you're willing to pay more, go with a Philips DVP5960 or an OPPO.
Review: The SD-3990 plays DVDs like any other DVD player. I've got 3 other DVD players already, so the only factor I was concerned with here is the MPEG-4 (DivX/XviD) support. The SD-3990 has none of the distorted images or sound sync problems that the popular ...

Pros: seemingly quality product for the price, sturdy
Cons: directions not accurate for integration to Home theatre, ate some dvd/cds
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this because it has good sound and picture quality and is dependable and has some cool features I understand, and some I don't use
Review: Wow, you guys paid 55 for it eh? I think I paid like 38 for it in Nov or Dec of 06. Maybe it has gone up in price since then (sigh). But it was inexpensive, and it has been, for the most part, a great little DVD player. The Zoom feature described (by ...

Pros: Low price, great picture and sound
Cons: wish it came in black. Only 90 day parts/labor warranty
Review: Purchased my Toshiba SD-3990 DVD player from http://www.crutchfield.com for $49.99. Set it up on 4/13/06. I bought this DVD player to not have to rely on my son's PS2. The setup was very easy. Only thing you need to be aware of is it's in ...

Pros: Slim design, made exceptional frizbee when I tossed it out the window
Cons: The flimsiest tray I have ever seen, poor contrast/hard to read screen
Review: The first thing I noticed was the lip-sync was off. Turning the unit off and on again would solve the problem, for a while. Sometimes I would have to go through this procedure three or four times a movie. This became a common problem for about the first ...

Pros: DivX playback, slim design
Cons: did not last long
The Bottom Line: Do not buy this model, as the crappy motor will not last long and you'll get No Disc errors and nothing will play.
Review: The features were great, especially being able to watch DivX movies without having to recode them as a DVD. One limitation I found was it would not read multi-burned files on DVD - burn a few AVI files to a DVD-R was fine, burn more and it would only ...

Pros: Lots of support for multiple disc and video formats.
Cons: Cheap display. Complex drive mechanism has bad failure mode.
Review: I bought this at Costco for $45 because an existing Toshiba DVD player was beginning to have trouble playing brand-new undamaged discs. As soon as I tried to skip an ad on the first disc I put in it, the drive mechanism started chattering loudly enough ...

Pros: crisp clear images, easy to operate basic functions.
Cons: sub title feature erratic and unpredictable
Review: I enjoy dvds because I'm hard of hearing, but most of them have sub titles which worked with pleasure with the old regular dvd player. With this model, the images are crisp, sound is good, but using the dvd menu for sub titles doesn't work; one has to ...

Pros: NONE
Cons: QUIT WORKING AFTER 3 MONTHS
Review: I had used it for maybe 20 hours and it quit working. Unfortunately, since I use it so rarely, the 90 warranty had expired. Toshiba was no help. All it does is say "no disc" and will not play anything. Horrible product that Toshiba will does not stand ...
