Like the Four, 4 by 4

Pros: Style, Headroom and Legroom, Very Comfortable Rear Seats, Good Mileage
Cons: Update, no longer hard to find, needs more storage for the driver, expensive
The Bottom Line: I shopped around a lot, the significant premium in price vs. the competition melted away when I saw the warranty coverage, its a great brand. Update, deals abound now!
Review: Other considered were the Honda CRV, Jeep Liberty, Suzuki Grand Vitara XL7, and the Ford/Mazda twins. The Honda was fine, but the styling was on the bland side. I liked the manual transmission on the CRV, which is not available on the Highlander. ...

Everything but panache

Pros: Better than the Lexus, car-like drive, big suv service
Cons: It's a toyota with no brand name panache!
The Bottom Line: Buy it cause it's the most suv for the money. Your only sacrifice is that you have to say you drive a toyota!
Review: Really, I just sold my Land Rover and bought the Highlander because it drives better, is much more reliable, feels great, has more worthwhile features. I've never owned a toyota and never wanted to. I hate that I own a Toyota, except for one thing: it...

A stud of an SUV

Pros: Nice kick with v6 engine. 220 horses more than enough. Smooth, quiet ride.
Cons: Less storage room than expected. Cup holders in inconvenient location.
The Bottom Line: If you are looking for a smooth, luxorious midsize SUV and are priced out of the Lexus, BMW, Mercedes range, this is your darling. Should be your darling either way.
Review: The 2001 Highlander V6 220 horsepower is a stud of an SUV. A shockingly smooth, luxurious ride with acceleration to burn. Tachometer and speedometer look beautiful at night, and the automatic driver seat makes for a comfortable ride whether you are 4'7"...

Pros: Great power (V6), Lots of Passenger Leg Room, Luxury Feel, Good Gas Mileage
Cons: None yet!
The Bottom Line: Reliable, fun car with lots of room for passengers and extra storage room. Sunroof, moonroof, drink holders, cruise control, cargo net in back, cover for back storage.
Review: We purchased our Toyota Highlander back in May, 2001. Before visiting the Toyota lot, we did not know anything about the Highlander. In fact, we were informed the car was just released in March 2001 and marketing had not yet started! We are truly...

I didn't want one but I'm happy with it

Pros: Nice ride; Not-too-small/not-too-big size; Toyota quality
Cons: Driver area storage is poor; Personally, I don't like the headlights
The Bottom Line: I like it -- it combines the best features of cars (ride/size) with those of trucks (cargo capacity/4wd/attitude). It's an updated station wagon and a real home run for Toyota.
Review: I didn't want one but my girlfriend wanted it so. . . I am now the proud owner of a Toyota Highlander (all-wheel drive, V-6, all options).
I'm not a big fan of SUVs but I can live with the Highlander which is saying a lot. It's clearly going... |

Best of Both Worlds!

Pros: Drives like a car, transports like an SUV
Cons: Some aspects of dealer service, 2 recalls in 1st year model
The Bottom Line: I would definitely recommend the Highlander for anyone who wants a lot of room, car-like handling, and doesn't need a 2nd back seat for kids!
Review: I purchased my Highlander in April and have enjoyed it a great deal. It drives with the smoothness of a car, but transports like a sport ute and takes the beating of one too. After looking at many sport utes, the Highlander seemed like the perfect...

Pros: Smooth & quiet V6; car-like ride and handling; Toyota quality
Cons: Most options come bundled in packages; back seat a little low
The Bottom Line: For those who go off-road, get the 4Runner. For everyone else, the Highlander gives you 95% of the Lexus RX300 for thousands less.
Review: When I started my search for a new car three months ago, I started with the Toyota 4Runner. I liked its aggressive appearance, great-sounding V6 engine, and bullet-proof reputation. I was less than impressed with the interior design (the interior door...

The Toyota Highlander - My Minivan Alternative

|
Pros: Cooler-looking than a minivan with Toyota quality and reliability
Cons: Kind of expensive compared to other manufacturers' offerings
The Bottom Line: A great alternative to a minivan for hauling the baby and all her stuff!
Review: I have always been a small sporty-car person. I never got into the whole sport-utility vehicle thing, preferring instead to drive cars that got more than 15 mpg, could accelerate to freeway speed in under 20 seconds, and were easy to parallel park. Then...

Pros: Good gas mileage.
Cons: Left foot rest too high.
Review: After reading other reviews I knew this was the car for me. After 500 miles of driving it was a very good choice. The 2.4L 4 cylinder has plenty of power for me and great gas mileage. The city/highway mix has been over 24 mpg. Handling and ...

Pros: Great handling; size is just right- not too small, nor too large.
Cons: No console between the front seats.. not too much to gripe about!
Review: We bought the standard 2001 highlander used over the summer. I was trading up from a dodge dakota pick-up. I love it! It drives like a car (my dad has the toyota solara and the "feel" when driving is almost identical). There is plenty of room for 4 ...
