A Baby Lexus? or an Overgrown Camry? Toyota's Avalon Has a Little Flavor of Both

by   scmrak , lead in Cars & Motorsports at Epinions.com ,  Mar 23, 2002
Pros: serenely quiet, silky ride
Cons: bare-bones amenities
The Bottom Line: It's often called an oversized Camry or a cheap Lexus; but the Avalon stands firmly on its own two feet -- and stands very quietly!
Review: Seems to me, I had this discussion once before: just what is the meaning of "luxury automobile"?

Beats me. I've never been much of one for top-of-the-line vehicles; give me a sturdy pickup or a comfy road wagon, and I'm a happy camper,...

2002 Toyota Avalon

by   tonylani ,  Feb 11, 2002
Pros: First Class Vehicle!
Cons: Narrow Tires, Fake wood scratches easily!
The Bottom Line: Smooth as silk!
Review: In October 2001, I leased a 2002 Avalon and I'm glad I did. I had a '94 Mercedes-Benz C280 with 210,000 miles on it, but didn't want to spend over $40,000 for the new C320. I always liked the Toyota Solara so I drove it. It had a sticker 0f $28,000....

My Second Avalon

by   jgiovann ,  Apr 6, 2002
Pros: Luxurious, Spacious, Quiet, Quality, Masterfully Designed.
Cons: None
The Bottom Line: Dollar for dollar, you cannot beat the size and quality of this car.
Review: After owning an Avalon XL since 1996, I was intent on replacing it with an "upscale" Acura or Lexus which I test drove and closely analyzed. I'm a big man and prefer a roomy car. The Acura 350 RL was a disappointment; a big exterior car but I felt...

An Automotive Masterpiece

by   sayu ,  Aug 31, 2002
Pros: Size, dependability, technology, ride blah blah blah
Cons: Zero
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend the new 03 Avalon XLS. Try to get the Vehicle Skid Control System --- a work of technology art that's not available anywhere else under $60k.
Review: Toyota's continue to amaze me. They build the very best car in the world --- period. I've owned my share of vehicles including Mercedes, Jaguar, Cadillac, Lincoln to name a few, and have been totally satisfied with Toyota's since I discovered their...

Exceptional car, very good value

by   tmhjr1 ,  Mar 1, 2002
Pros: EVERYTHING!excellent fit and finish, sumptuous interior, smooth, quiet ride
Cons: None found yet, steering feel is a bit light, built on old camry platform
The Bottom Line: Bulletproof toyota quality, lexus-like refinement, excellent value for money, smooth refined ride, HIGHLY recommended!
Review: WOW! I am very pleasantly surprised. I have been a car nut since I was five years old and my grandfather gave me a piece of an old t-shirt to help him wipe the wax off his big, black 55 cadillac.I grew up to become a BMW salesman. I love cars, all kinds...

FIT FOR A KING-as good as Lexus.

by   Harrison! ,  May 22, 2002
Pros: ROOMY! Lexus like quality.
Cons: Not very crisp handling
The Bottom Line: This car is roomy and quiet. Its a bit of a boaty ride, but almost as nice as Lexus.
Review: Avalon XL, XLS
Avalon is named after a mystical island where the legendary King Aurthur was ferried to by the mysterious "Lady in the Lake", it was to be his final resting place where he could slumber until the land again faced a peril only he could...

The best car ever

by   AlphaCat ,  Jun 15, 2002
Pros: Everything
Cons: none
The Bottom Line: Its essentally a cheaper Lexus
Review: This is a follow up to a prior Avalon I had reviewed two years ago execept this time we acutally bought it now in 2002. This is the best car ever with so many good qualties about it.

Our car is a black XL with the package with the wheels,...

Smooth Experience

by   tdavis001 ,  Apr 26, 2007
Pros: gas mileage, interior, space, handling, acceleration, dash, sound system
Cons: exterior styling is ordinary
Review: I bought this car with relatively high mileage - near 100k. Yet it has been an outstanding purchase. Gas mileage is excellent. The ride and suspension are what one would imagine an air cushion would provide. The interior is as beautiful, and well ...

A little below expectations

by   alexaks ,  Aug 26, 2002
Pros: Room, design, ride
Cons: Instrument panel design, handling, suspension, seat comfort
The Bottom Line: If you are in the market for a not expensive luxury sedan, Avalon provides a good value. Do not expect it to perform as more expensive competitors, though.
Review: My father-in-law bought a new 2002 Avalon XL. Even though he is not very emotional, I could tell that he fell in love with his new car. I had a chance to drive it for a day. WellÂ… after the rave reviews the car has received, I did expect more. I did...
