Illegal drugs are as commonplace as Mom's apple pie!

by   cntaur5 ,  Jun 26, 2001
Pros: It is an extraordinary accomplishment in filmmaking, a stunning and brutal reality check.
Cons: Not for kids due to profanity, teen sex and brief nudity.
The Bottom Line: This is a film that captures America's drug war in the here and now. It's going to be a classic!
Review: The eye opening movie “Traffic” is available on DVD and Video Tape at most video stores. This movie was directed and written by Steven Soderbergh based on the book Traffic by Simon Moore. The movie intermingles three drug related stories in real time...

Traffic: The War on Drugs

by   psugrowler ,  Jan 8, 2001
Pros: Epic Filmmaking
Cons: N/A
The Bottom Line: surreal depiction of the neverending war on drugs
Review: Traffic is the unfolding drama that underscores the seedy industry of drug trafficking. Through a series of interwoven stories we are exposed a caustic glimpse of the never-ending war on drugs. From the hot, sun scorched fields in Mexico, to the...

Stop the Traffic (Review #500... yay)

by   updateghost , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  Oct 3, 2005
Pros: I love love love love love Traffic.
Cons: Mary J is a killa. A killa!
The Bottom Line: is hiiiiiiiiiigh.
Review: Traffic was released in 2000 and garnered several awards. Kids like me had fathers who said, "You wouldn't like it," so I decided to skip out. I was in eighth grade in 2000, so perhaps my father was right... but now the film certainly holds a ...

Cross-Continent Traffic

by   pmills1210 , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  Feb 3, 2001
Pros: Talented ensemble, smart script
Cons: The war on drugs never ends
The Bottom Line: Traffic is one of the best films of 2000. It does not pretend to have any easy answers to solving the drug war. Every person is a potential target.
Review: The cycle of the war on drugs is a never-ending one. Money, or the lack of it, is at the root of the problem, for as long as someone is willing to pay for illegal drugs, someone will be there to supply them. That's just one of the sobering lessons...

Traffic-The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

by   mike.holmes ,  Jan 20, 2001
Pros: An incredible ride through the world of drug dealing and the war against it
Cons: A little simplistic on what the true answer may be
The Bottom Line: We spend billions on a problem that we don't really understand. This film shows how serious that problem is and what we might do about it.
Review: This is a movie which should be required viewing for teenagers and politicians. It should
be required for teens because it might make a few of them stop and think before injecting
all kinds of drugs into their bodies. Politicians might learn...

Soderbergh the Unstoppable

by   Goatius ,  Jan 25, 2001
Pros: Absolutely outstanding direction, screenplay, fantastic performances, especially Del Toro, Zeta-Jones, Douglas
Cons: Really depressing, a tad long, weird Wizard of Oz lighting effects
The Bottom Line: Traffic is one of the best films of last year, if not THE best, boasting fine directing from Soderbergh, a magnificent screenplay, and dynamite performances.
Review: Steven Soderbergh's other, slightly better film of 2000 is a riveting masterpiece, a sprawling epic, a tragic reflection of today's society, and more. It boasts some of the best acting last year had to offer and one of the tightest, most realistic...

A great way to start the year!

by   phungus ,  Jan 7, 2001
Pros: Great cast, great story, well directed, awesome movie
Cons: None!
Review: Y2K dumped more than enough junkie movies onto the market. Many of us in the movie enthusiasts community were seriously beginning to lose home in any of the studio's ability to produce good films. It seems that any movie with enough money attached to...

Traffik

by   ParisLemon ,  May 31, 2001
Pros: Direction, great performances, relevant story.
Cons: Very long at parts.
The Bottom Line: The story of how we (Americans) are trying to fight the war on drugs, and losing......
Review: The Movie That Won Soderbergh Best Director
This is the best movie that Steven Soderbergh has made to date, not my favorite, but the best. My favorite is of course Out Of Sight (probably known to you as the Clooney, Jennifer...

"Traffic"; trafficking great filmmaking into theaters

by   CaptainHowdy ,  Jan 7, 2001
Pros: Expertly crafted, Great acing all around, Visually superb
Cons: Sometimes flaccid emotions, Typical stories
Review: Traffic, Steven Soderbergh’s blistering portrait of illegal substance trade between the US and Mexico and the lives tangled in between, isn’t a drug movie in the traditional sense. In many ways, it’s a movie more about the politics of them, and...

Stoned is the way of the film.

by   Trotterman ,  Jan 5, 2001
Pros: Standout performances by Del Toro, Christensen and Zeta-Jones make this a great film with characters that film goers can actually care about. Soderbergh has out done himself with this epic work.
Cons: No real resolution may leave some viewers unfulfilled. An exchange between Bauer and Quaid near the end of the film seems out of place.
Review: Rare is the film that will have me screaming Academy Award as I leave the theater. "Traffic" is such a film.

From the vision of Steven Soderbergh ("Erin Brockovich" "Out of Sight" "The Limey") comes...
