Who's Next, uhh, that would be me... |
|||
|
Pros: Aggressive, heartfelt, steaming, simmering, poignant music all around.
Cons: It's been a long time.
The Bottom Line: Who's Next by The Who has just made my musical heaven even more complete.
Review: I may be reviewing more of this early 70's and 80's prog-rock lately, but it sure doesn't mean I feel comfortable with it! Sometimes I read about these albums and I think "Why bother?" I feel like an inadequate history teacher who wasn't there to ...

An Influential Classic Weaved by None Other Than the Who |

Pros: -
Cons: -
The Bottom Line: -
Review: Rock and roll. From the moment these words sway across your tongue certain bands will flash in front of your eyes depending on your taste in music. Sure, Elvis Presley did a lot for the category and a lot of people consider him The King. But for the ...

Go Down To Your "Teenage Wasteland," Find This, And Begin Your Rock and Roll Education |
|||
|
Pros: It's The Who's best album that isn't named Quadrophenia.
Cons: *pfft*, please
The Bottom Line: see title
Review: In May of 1969, English rockers The Who released Tommy, their groundbreaking rock opera about the "deaf, dumb and blind kid." Before Tommy, The Who had had a small amount of success in America. Happy Jack had reached #24 on the...

Ladies and Gentlemen: one of all time best rock n roll records, Whos Next |
|||
|
Pros: It will change the way you listened to music
Cons: That you still dont have it
maybe?
The Bottom Line: Is out there.
Review: The more I listen to rock music, the more I realize great albums usually come under pressure. It is when youre expected to, when you know you either best yourself or they will call you history
it is then that great Bands and Artists delive ...

Who's Essential. |
|||
|
Pros: Innovative, overall rich in sound.
Cons: Trick, please.
The Bottom Line: Brilliance!
Review: Ever since the Who's essential Who's Next endeared itself to my rock and roll-lovin' psyche, I've had a strange fantasy. I'd like to remake the album with instrumentation played completely on acoustic guitar, except with rappers providing guest...

Pros: This is the album with almost no flaws. No kidding.
Cons: Good question.
The Bottom Line: The Bottom Line won't get fooled again.
Review: After the immense success at home and abroad of 1969s rock opera Tommy, The Who found themselves poised to explode. Even after a mediocre Woodstock performance (vocalist Roger Daltrey has often called it the worst Who performance ever), the ...

Pros: It could be the perfect rock and roll album
Cons: It leaves you wanting more
The Bottom Line: The one album I ALWAYS keep near me to play.
Review: It came from the ashes that was a movie project called Lighthouse. This story by Pete Townshend was a futuristic look at a place where pollution had taken it's toll.
Everyone had to travel in sealed garments or vehicles. All living quarters and... |

Who are these guys? |
|||
|
Pros: Lots of acoustic guitar, Moon's drumming
Cons: None to speak of
Review: Who's Next, released in 1971, has one of the most famous album covers in rock n' roll annals-it depicts the group standing in front of a concrete monolith, either beginning or finishing the act of urination. It really doesn't have much to do with the...

Insanity Breeds Genius... Isn't that usually how it works? |
|||
|
Pros: well-written songs, excellent musicianship, innovative use of synths, horns, and strings
Cons: Once more... all together now. You've got to be f*cking kidding me!
The Bottom Line: Who's Next is an album that will forever stand as a towering achievement in rock music. Buy it. Now. Stop reading. Go!
Review: Isnt that where the best ideas come from? From guys who are totally nuts? I mean, Syd Barrett was eccentric (to say the least), and one could make arguments that neither Jim Morrison nor Kurt Cobain were fully sane during their respective creative ...

Pros: Great vocals from three members. Powerful rockers. A slight sophistication. No confusing concepts.
Cons: If we're disregarding bonus tracks, I don't hear much that's wrong.
The Bottom Line: Sits at the crossroads of art rock, proto-metal-pop, and pre-punk angst. Untouched by the cerebral pretensions of other Who albums.
Review: Some bands have no reason to put out concept albums. When I think of concept album, I imagine an engaging storyline backed up by music that supports the narrative in intensity and mood. Pink Floyd knew how to kick em out like pros. Danish ...
